What is Keto Diet?

A diet that consists of more fat, less protein, and very little carbs is the keto diet. When you follow this diet your blood glucose and insulin levels decline. In this condition, as the insulin levels are low and also you are taking a diet which
is less in carbs, so your body starts burning fat in your body and ketones are
produced. These are compounds containing a ketone functional group. This process of production of ketone bodies is known as ketosis. That’s why this diet is called the keto diet. Ketone
bodies are ultimately oxidized in mitochondria and produce energy. Ketone bodies
act as fuel sources for the brain, heart, and muscle.

Some of the most common Keto diet foods include:

  • Seafood: Fish and shellfish

  • Meat

  • Eggs

  • Cheese

  • Olives

  • Avocados

  • Cucumber

  • Cauliflower

  • Cabbage

  • Spinach

Most Important Health benefits of the keto diet:

  • Helps in weight loss

As this diet is responsible for burning fat deposits in your body so weight is surely decreased when you take the keto diet.

  • Reduce Acne Symptoms

According to recent studies, the keto diet lessens the symptoms
of acne.

  • Reduce the risk of certain cancers:

According to one study, a keto diet is also responsible for the
death of cancer cells due to oxidative stress on cancer cells.  It can be used alongside chemotherapy and
radiation therapy for the treatment of cancer.

  • Improves heart health:

A study says that a keto diet is responsible for declining bad
cholesterol (LDL), triglycerides and increasing good cholesterol (HDL) in your
body.

An increased level of cholesterol is responsible for cardiovascular
complications and thus causes heart problems. So Keto diet can improve your heart
health.

  • Strengthen and protect the brain and nerve cells!

The study also shows ketone bodies produced from the keto diet strengthens and protects the brain and nerve cells.

Patient Successfully implanted with China’s first artificial heart!

In China, a patient named Song was implanted with the Country’s first
commercial artificial heart
. The patient was diagnosed with Dilated Cardiomyopathy
(DCM). He agreed to undergo artificial heart implantation and after the successful surgery, his post-operative condition is that he is stable. The patient was stable enough to be discharged on Tuesday 5 January 2021.
The surgery was performed in Sichuan Provincial People’s Hospital (SPPH) in
Sichuan Province, China.

After telling you the brief story about artificial heart implantation, now I will be telling you a few things for your
better understanding. First of all, starting from the very basic, about the heart. The heart is the vital organ of your body. Its function is to pump blood to all
parts of your body. Then the next thing is why it has to pump the blood to organs
and body parts, you might be thinking of? The answer is that blood carries with
itself oxygen and nutrients to different body parts to meet their energy demands.
Just like a car needs fuel to move on! So now I hope you have a good basic
idea about the human heart’s functioning and its importance. Now here the case is that
the patient got implanted with an Artificial heart. So, what is the artificial heart? An artificial
heart is a device that replaces your real heart. Also, an artificial heart is used when
you are undergoing open-heart surgery to replace your heart with the artificial
one to make your body survive. While this whole process is ongoing your own heart
is being repaired by the cardiac surgeons. There is also a condition when your
heart cannot be replaced. Then comes the use of an artificial heart. Thanks to the
new innovation in the medical field! Artificial heart replaces your real heart physically
and functionally and does what your normal heart has to!

In Song’s (patient) case the artificial
heart that he got is battery dependent. The artificial heart works on AC supply
through the socket or DC supply through batteries. It got two things the device
(artificial heart), the internal and the external part. The internal part is present
inside your body and works like a normal heart while the external part is a battery source
and both the parts are connected through a wire. Song can now easily walk and go to grocery shop
and can drive. He is now in stable condition as compared to the state he was in
(Dilated Cardiomyopathy)
, which is a condition in which your heart muscles
got dilated and mostly the left ventricle (a chamber in the heart) got first affected. The left ventricle is a chamber that has the job of pumping blood to all parts of
your body, so when it is affected your heart can’t pump blood like a healthy
heart.

New strain of Coronavirus described "Out of Control"!

Viruses mutate and change their structure as it happens with the influenza virus as this is one of the quality of virus. Coronavirus since its inception has mutated many times according to experts. But Recently it has been found that the new coronavirus variant found in London, UK named ‘VUI-202012/01’ or B.1.1.7 is reportedly said to be 70 percent more infectious. It is described “out of control” and “very infectious”.  New strain of coronavirus is not a question mark for the vaccine as the vaccine is made keeping in view several mutations of the virus. But it is too early too say that as experts are working on that and some also said that maybe vaccine will be in trouble fighting disease as this new strain has undergone several unsual changes. But again it is not confirmed as things are underway!

It has been reported that several bases have been deleted from the virus genome in this new variant and those were responsible for some of the spike proteins which are one of those used to test for covid using PCR. Concerns have been made as those testing for covid in one stream can get negative results. It has been empasized that tests should be done in more than one stream by using multiple spike proteins. B.1.1.7 strain of coronavirus genetic study have shown that it has unusual large number of genetic changes particularly spike proteins which are responsible for interaction of virus with the human cell. That’s why the new strain of coronavirus has been named and called “out of control” and very transmissible. Italy reports first case with the new strain of coronavirus. Saudi Arabia closes Border for all as all types of transports accross the country have been banned. India deciding to take action in a meeting today. France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Holland, Belgium, and Bulgaria have all banned flights from UK over this.

Susan Hopkins of Public Health England said the agency notified the government on December 18 when modelling revealed the full seriousness of the new strain. The UK submitted its findings to the World Health Organization the same day.

The only thing we have to do to combat the virus is to follow the preventive measures (SOP’s) as we were previously doing so we can make the virus less adaptive and less transmissible in any form.

How to spend Quarantine and time of social distancing during COVID-19 Pandemic?

         Due to
Corona Virus most of the countries of the world have locked down their cities. All
the public places which include shopping malls, restaurants, parks, etc. are
closed and people are stuck in their homes. Even those people who are not ill
are at home due to this global pandemic. Health specialists all around the
world have advised to do self-quarantine and practice social distancing.
According to merriam-webster.com quarantine meaning is “isolation of people,
animals, or things (as plants) out of a certain area to prevent the spread of
disease or pests”. It is very difficult to pass the time of the whole day at home
when you are accustomed to the daily work schedule and activities outside the home. But
it is important for you to do self-quarantine when you come to know that you
were in contact who was tested positive for Corona Virus or feeling any
illness.  Also if you are not having an illness you should stay at home to protect yourself, your family and play a
part in preventing the spread of this global pandemic by practicing coronavirus
preventive measures.

      If you are
following the preventive measures and instructions of your government and want
to know how to spend this time productively you are in the right place!

      First of all
you should make a proper timetable for the things you will be doing during this
time. There is plenty of things to do. You can now spend more time with your
family members as offices and schools are closed. Put your cellphones aside and
have quality time with your children. Read good history books and tell
stories to your children or other family members. This will increase your
knowledge about the past and your children. Aside from family, you can also spend
time with your friends and colleagues by using social media apps like WhatsApp,
Facebook, Skype, etc. by making video calls to them.

Practice your hobbies and if you
don’t have any make your hobby by learning something like drawing, painting,
and writing. You can learn all these from the videos on YouTube or blogs on the internet. Allocate your time for all the activities so that you can enjoy and
pass the time effectively. Keep yourself healthy by doing exercise and this
will keep your mind sound and healthy. Do exercise and look for home workout
methods on YouTube. You can learn cooking and can try a lot of recipes present on
BBC good food. And if you already know how to cook? You can enhance your
cooking skills and can know more recipes. Use this time to polish your skills by
doing online certifications. Do something you always wanted to do and could not
do because you were not having enough time.

Have a look at the life you have
spent. Identify the things you have done wrong, consider your mistakes, and be
honest yourself in doing that. Think of how you can improve the rest of your life
and create new goals. People who are doing jobs now by working from home or
were previously doing should be prepared that what they will do if their
current job is lost due to the current world economic crisis. They should look for
other good companies or have plans in mind to prepare for their requirements in
advance. You can also play indoor games like table tennis, badminton, etc. Card
games can also be played. If you have any space in your homes like a backyard,
roof, or basement you can also play cricket and football. Read good books and
increase your knowledge. Keep yourself entertained too by watching movies or
seasons. Apart from all these things take good care of your health and practice
hygienic measures at your home to prevent yourself from COVID-19.

     When this
lockdown will be over you will have a very good feeling of not wasting precious
time of your life. Stay Home! Stay Safe!

FDA also warns of harmful symptoms after second dose. The vaccine will alter the pandemic as according to FDA its 95% effocient. Covid-19 pandemic has affected the world badly but now it will be turning point in pandemic hopefully. Its distribution will also take time due to logistical problems. But we should not forget to follow SOP’s and protect ourselves from the coronavirus!

9 Tips to reduce belly fat!

Maintaining a flat belly does more
to make you look great—it can help you live a longer and healthier life. Excess
belly fat can affect your body health much more than your other body fat. Too
much belly fat — referred to as visceral fat is more likely to cause high blood
pressure, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, dementia, and certain cancers,
including breast cancer and colon cancer. Blood vessel functioning and sleep
quality is improved by burning belly fat. Belly fat is seriously harmful. One
should check his BMI and maintain it in the normal range between 18.5 to 24.9 (For
adults). Losing fat from this area can be difficult, but there are several
things you can do to reduce excess abdominal fat. You can also measure your
abdominal fat by measuring your waist with a tape measure. Every person has
some belly fat, even people who have flat abs, but having an excess of it is
detrimental to health.

Here are 9 tips
that will help you to reduce belly fat:

1.
Exercise regularly:

Exercise is one of the best things you can do to increase your chances of
living a long, healthy life and avoiding disease.
Not only can it reduce your risk of
cancer, stroke, diabetes, and heart attacks, but studies have shown that
physical activity can significantly improve the moods of patients with major
depressive disorders.

2.
Drink water:

Have adequate water to flush away those toxins. This will give you dual
benefits of glowing skin and a flat tummy abdomen.

3.
Avoid sugary food:

 Sugar contains fructose, which has
been linked to several chronic diseases when consumed in excess. These include
heart disease, type 2 diabetes, obesity, and fatty liver disease

4.
Track what you eat:

Prefer low carb diet instead of a low-fat diet because it’s more efficient
in burning fat according to research.

5.
Say NO to stress: Stressing and anxiety can cause the
over-production of a certain hormone called cortisol, which encourages weight
gain about the belly area. So try to keep yourself cool!

6.
Eat more protein:

According to healthline.com “Research shows protein can reduce cravings
by 60%, boost metabolism by 80–100 calories per day, and help you eat up to 441
fewer calories per day”

7.
Eat fiber-rich foods:

A diet containing fiber is indigestible and helps in reducing weight.

8.
Not Sit too much: If your work is of a kind that you
have to sit the whole day, spare some time to do movement activities. Just do your
best to move around as much as you can. Studies have shown that people who sit eight to nine hours a day, even if they exercisethe recommended 150 minutes per week, do not get the same benefits ofexercising as people who are more active throughout the day.

Sleep
Well:
A
recent study of 70,000 individuals showed that those getting less than five
hours of sleep were more likely to gain 30 or more pounds.

COVID-19 and Pregnancy

COVID-19 pandemic has affected millions of people worldwide.
There are growing concerns regarding COVID in different groups of people.
Pregnant women and their families have a number of questions regarding covid-19.
Are pregnant women at risk of developing coronavirus? Is the most commonly asked
question. The answer to this question is that there is no evidence that
pregnant women are at risk of seriously getting infected with the coronavirus. For
safety purposes, pregnant women are included in the list of people with moderate
risk. Until now it is known that COVID has no effect on the development of the baby. It means COVID is not teratogenic according to present evidence. Pregnant
women who got COVID positive are also not at risk of miscarriage. Pregnant
women with COVID-19 infection maybe may have mild symptoms or can be
asymptomatic. Pregnant women who are older, obese, and have underlying medical
conditions such as hypertension and diabetes seem to have an increased risk of
developing severe COVID-19.

Can coronavirus be transmitted from mother to fetus? is also
one of the most commonly asked questions. It is still not known whether
pregnant women can transmit coronavirus to their fetuses or not!  Some newborn babies got affected by Coronavirus
but it is not sure from where they got affected either from their mother or due
to contact with an affected person.  Mostly
mild or no symptoms were seen in newborns who tested positive for the virus and
they got recovered quickly. Up till now, the coronavirus virus has not been
found in samples of fluid around the baby (amniotic) in the womb or breast milk.

Pregnant women should follow the same Standard Operating
Procedures (SOP’s)
as other people do. They should:

ü
Wear a mask

ü
Wash hand regularly or sanitize them with 60%
alcohol sanitizer.

ü
Maintain a distance of 6 feet from other people.

By following SOP’s we can prevent ourselves and our loved
ones from catching the coronavirus!

FDA confirms Pfizer’s COVID-19 Vaccine is Effective and Safe

In March
2020 Pfizer, an American multinational Pharmaceutical Corporation collaborated
with Biotech i.e. a German Biotechnology company to develop COVID-19 vaccine.
Coronavirus has jolted the world by affecting millions. Millions of people have
been killed. Many vaccines were in progress of making as they were undergoing
several trials. Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine is yet to be approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration). But
today FDA has made very important news public that Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine
is safe and effective. As it causes minor symptoms of pain, redness, and
swelling in the area of injection. Also, headache and muscle pain are symptoms which
are later felt. According to BBC  “US regulators have confirmed
the Pfizer/BioNTech COVID vaccine is 95%
effective
, paving the way for it to be approved for emergency use.”
A UK
grandmother has become the first person in the world to be given the Pfizer
Covid-19 jab as part of a mass vaccination programme.
Margaret
Keenan, who turns 91 next week, said it was the “best early birthday
present”

The mechanism of action of vaccine is that
it is mRNA based vaccine and when it is injected into the body proteins known as
spike proteins are produced from mRNA by the cell. They are broken down by the
cell and released and then antigen-presenting cells uptake them and present
them to helper T cells. Helper T cells stimulate other cells and B-cells. B-cells
when simulated produce antibodies against the spike proteins. In this way, immunity is developed by the body against the disease (Coronavirus). In the healthcare industry, this is great development and news and hopefully COVID
pandemic will end soon!
